Blaziker’s Worst to Best Animated Movies of 2024 (Part 3)

Introduction

Hello once again, fellow adventurers! Blaziker has returned to continue the Worst to Best Animated Movies of 2024! If you want to see the following parts before moving on to part 3, click on the following:

With that said, let’s continue with some of the better and more exciting animated movies that came out that year because boy, this is going to be a blast!

42. The Inventor

Despite its lacklustre writing, there is a clear level of passion and dedication put into The Inventor thanks to its uniquely fantastic animation and exciting soundtrack. I am honestly happy to see movies like The Inventor existing to showcase the power of true indie animation.

41. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

While Warner Bros is still ruining their long-standing stance on animation till this day and that this Lord of the Rings anime movie felt more like an afterthought to get rid of its inventory, I’m glad this movie exists to show that some people within Warner Bros still care about distributing animated movies.

40. The Storm

Into the animated movies that I have confidence in recommending, and this is yet another fantastic animated movie from China that, while has a rather confusing plot, managed to clean up its act in the second half, including an impressive animation sequence at the climatic scene that would make its audience’s jaws drop.

39. The Inseparables (Rating Updated)

Yet another nWave animated movie that shows signs of this Belgian studio improving their craft, The Inseparables does more than your typical family-friendly foreign CG animated movie by being more daring with its imaginative plot and animation, and shows that the wheels at nWave never stops turning thanks to its new generation of writers and animators around.

38. Diplodocus

Diplodocus is yet another imaginative animated movie that tackles the relationship between the creation and his creator in an interesting light, resulting in a rather unique feeling animated movie that is tough to replicate elsewhere. Definitely a sign of things to come with Iggy the Eagle, another upcoming Polish hybrid animated movie I am looking forward to.

37. Four Souls of Coyote

The second of the three Hungarian animated movies for this year, and I enjoyed this fantastic Native American storyline and its visuals. However, there were other animated movies this year that do their storylines more justice compared to what Four Souls provided for us.

36. My Love Affair with Marriage

2024 is one of the greatest years for experimental and true indie animated movies that shows that you do not need a large budget or big crew to produce top-quality animated movies, and this uniquely feeling animated movie is one of them. Watch this space for Signe Baumane, because she is a very unique animated movie director.

35. Animal Tales of Christmas Magic

The other Christmas animated movie I got to watch, and this feels like a true and cosy Christmas anthology animated movie full of charm and heart even with the minimal dialogue. Between this and That Christmas, I rather chose something that speaks through its heart more than words.

34. Dongeng Sang Kancil

My final animated movie for 2024, and easily one of the greatest animated movie experiences I had for the year, this Malaysian animated movie did not hold back on its action, violence and gore, with fantastic animation and musical numbers even if the writing is not as solid as the rest of its elements.

33. Kung Fu Panda 4

The fourth instalment in this beloved DreamWorks franchise might not be as impactful as the rest of its movies, but Kung Fu Panda 4 still delivers in terms of why this series is popular in the first place. Considering the fifth movei is in the works, I say go ahead!

32. Piece by Piece

This Pharell Williams animated documentary might not have a well-written story, but this movie stands out thanks to its unique and refreshing Lego stop-motion animation and banger music numbers that reminded viewers of why Williams is such an exciting musician and songwriter in the first place.

31. Into the Mortal World

Arguably my most favourite Chinese animated movie from this year, Into the Mortal World brings in a lot of excitement and twists even if we had seen movies like it before. That said, it seems China is slowing down in terms of its animated movie output, might be either for the best, hopefully not for the worst.

30. A Greyhound of a Girl

A true hidden gem in a sea of hidden gems in 2024, Greyhound might not be as technically impressive as some of the best animated movies of 2024, but it is a soothing and calming animated movie that delivers on its simple charm.

29. Puffin Rock and the New Friends

This movie adaptation of a popular Cartoon Saloon animated series might not be as flashy and exciting as most of their top-tier animated movies, but I love how quaint and interesting this adaptation is, and shows that even the weaker Cartoon Saloon works are better than some animation studios’ best.

28. Ghost Cat Anzu

Ghost Cat Anzu might falter in some of its writing, but its unique rotoscoping approach makes it a feast for the eyes by turning something so simple into something that I can watch over and over again, and not feel tired out.

27. The Glassworker

2024 is also the year where countries not known for its animation are suddenly releasing very good animated movies that represent their country so well, and this Pakistani hand-drawn animated movie felt so refreshing and exciting, even if the story might not feel polished and despite its heavy Studio Ghibli influences.

26. Transformers One

Coming towards some really fantastic animated movies, and Transformers One is the surprise of the year. This Transformers prequel animated movie is proof that the Michael Bay live-action movies should not exist, with great characters, fun comedy and thrilling action sequences that reminded viewers of this legendary franchise in the first place.

25. The Most Precious of Cargoes

The opening film at this year’s Annecy Film Festival and from the director behind The Artist, Cargoes tells a Holocaust story from a rather different perspective that might not be as impactful as first thought, but still tells an important story very well.

24. Orion and the Dark

A DreamWorks animated movie that is too good for Netflix, Orion and the Dark is a dark but well-executed animated movie from one of the best horror movie writers out there, showing that yes, DreamWorks did learn from the failures of 2023 and are at least willing to step up from there.

23. Ernest and Celestine: A Trip to Gibberita

Even if this sequel to one of the most beloved non-mainstream animated movies of the early 2010s might not be as great as that, but this is such a sweet and endearing sequel with fantastic comedy and animation, that I am willing to see past its flaws and enjoy this great sequel.

22. Olivia & the Clouds

Another animated movie from a country not known for its animation that turned out to be so amazing, this Dominican Republic animated movie is very experimental, out of the box and above all, so impactful to me. It is a shame this country is ridiculed for Captain Avispa instead of being celebrated with Olivia & the Clouds.

To Be Continued

We still got 21 more animated movies to cover before I can finally bring 2024 to a close, so tune in next week for the best 21 animated movies of 2024. Until next time, see you on the next adventure!
